“You found me! I bet I caught your eye. I look a little different from the other trees
around here, don’t I? Take a closer look at my bark. It peels away in patches,
revealing shades of white, green, and gray beneath.
Here’s the interesting part – I’m not really supposed to be here. I’m an American
sycamore, and trees like me usually grow much farther south. No one knows
exactly how I arrived at the Beaver River about 85 years ago. Maybe my seeds
floated downstream, or maybe the wind carried them here. It’s still a mystery.
I love life along the water, and as I grow older, my trunk may become hollow,
creating a home for owls, wood ducks, and many other animals.
Thanks to generous public donations, Tree Trust was able to give me some
long-overdue TLC, helping me thrive for years to come.”
