Help us care for our first Tree Trust Tree

We wouldn’t be able to help these trees without you. Help us preserve our next tree by donating here. And if you know of mature trees in Centre Wellington’s parks and public spaces that need help, you can nominate them here.

Mount Forest is located at the junction of Highway 6 and Highway 89 in the township of Wellington North, Ontario Canada. The population is 5040 as of 2021.
Prior to European settlement, present day Mount Forest was prime hunting ground for the Saugeen Ojibway peoples due to its location on the Saugeen River. Because of this, many sacred burial sites are believed to be located in the White Bluffs region of present-day Mount Forest.
In 1840-48 the land was reserved for a settlement. By 1851 a post office was established. Originally known as Maitland Hills, the fillage is on a height of land near the headwaters of the South Saugeen River.
The settlement was surveyed into lots in 1853 by Francis Kerr, a provincial land surveyor, with the village-plot names Mount Forest. By 1864 the population had grown to 1185 so that it qualified to be incorporated as a village. In 1869, Mount Forest was listed as an “incorporated Village of the Townships of Egremont, Normanby, and Arthur” in the County of Wellington, as being “one of the most enterprising villages in teh West” with a population of 1700.
At an elevation of 430 meters (1,410ft) above seal level, Mount Forest is one of the highest towns in Southern Ontario being located in the western portion of the Dundalk highlands. The aim of the Mount Forest Green Team, now representing a Chapter of Tree Trust, is to justify the name “Forest” in Mount Forest!

Joining the Ranks of Tree of the Year

Mount Forest will be launching their Tree of the Year campaign late April- so keep checking in for your opportunity to nominate your favourite tree.

Erin and Chris Kiers are the owners of an Eco friendly Salon, Spa and Energy Treatment space called Hybrid Hair and Detox Spa in Mount Forest. For the first 10 years of operation, they celebrated the donation of a tree each year to a local school or park. They are happy to be a part of such an organization that will allow them the opportunity to continue to plant and preserve local trees for years to come. Erin and Chris currently live on a property that includes reforestation and protected historical land formations also known as Eskars.
