Silver Maple at the Muslim Society of Guelph

Guelph Tree Trust is pleased to announce we that on Saturday October 14th we will provide arborist care for mature Silver Maple tree at 286 Water Street, Guelph, on property of the Muslim Society of Guelph The public will be invited to attend and watch a team of arborists pruning high in the crown of this aging beautiful tree.

Members of GTT will be on hand to provide information on the tree and pruning work of a team lead by GTT arborist Doug Steel, of Full Circle Tree Care. Children who are students at the two schools onsite, and their families, will be special guests. The silver maple, which overarches the Montessori Centre’s preschool playground, is especially appreciated by the children and staff. The Meezan school students will also be interested to see the work being done on this tree.

Guelph Tree Trust is ensuring this Silver Maple will receive the care it needs so the countless benefits to the community and environment of its huge canopy and root system remain for as long as possible. It will continue to be safe for the children and staff who play in its shade for many more years.
Donations are needed for this project. Funds raised will help to pay for the care of this and other legacy trees in Guelph.

Even though it was raining lightly, it was a thrill to see the 2 arborists hard at work pruning small branches at the very tips! They climbed by pulling themselves up to the very top of the tree and sides to do this work. It went well and they were done by around 3pm. There was a small audience of supporters. We repositioned the lovely “foot” paintings of the tree by the children to the outside of the fence as we pruned the lower hanging branches you had attached them to.
The two “understudy” saplings were planted near the Silver Maple with the idea that they will form the next generation of old trees! One towards the west side is a Basswood tree and the one on the north side is a Hackberry tree. Both native trees that will become significant trees.
