Trees in Port Dalhousie stand proudly along its majestic streets overlooking Lake
Ontario, a testament to the community’s brief economic boom from steam ships
navigating the early canals and welcoming visitors from Toronto aboard the historic
Cayuga ship well into the 1950’s.

To expand the existing tree legacy and commemorate the 150th anniversary of St.
Catharines’ founding, 150 trees were planted in Walkers Creek by over 60 volunteers.
Robert Hicks, Co-Chapter Lead, said, ”Every tree planted here today is a quiet act of
hope, a reminder that meaningful change begins with small actions. TreeTrust strives to
assist the community in protecting trees and planting the appropriate tree in the right
location at the right time.”

Volunteers shared a beautifully decorated cake and pastries from local suppliers.
The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority and the tree supplier estimate that nearly
80% of the newly planted trees will survive the first year of growth.
