Waterloo Launch and their Burr Oak

Reep Green Solutions brings Tree Trust to Waterloo Region

Tree Trust launches in Waterloo Region with St. Benedict’s Bur Oak

Reep Green Solutions celebrated the launch of the Waterloo Region Tree Trust on Arbor Day 2022 with St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School (C.S.S.) joined by the students of their Grade 12 graduating class, members of the school community, and Cambridge community including Mayor Kathryn McGarry.

A ceremony was held on Arbor Day to induct the first Waterloo Region Tree Trust tree into the program. This tree was affectionately named Florere by St. Benedict’s 2022 graduating class.

In Latin, this means ‘in bloom.’ Hence, this name symbolizes a fresh start and the desire to build a bright future wherein all can flourish; all people and Nature alike. For us, the soon-to-be graduates of St. Benedict, this tree is particularly meaningful, as it will forever be a reminder to our class that, like this tree, we can grow as vast and as strong, soaking up all of life’s opportunities, and continually thriving alongside our newest community member: Florere.

– Nimrah Imtiaz, St. Benedict Grade 12 student

The ceremony concluded with a demonstration from the arborists at Mother Earth Tree Care as they climbed the tree to practice their craft and remove deadwood.

Special thanks to Derek Coleman of the Ages Foundation for sponsoring the Waterloo Region Tree Trust and to St. Benedict C.S.S. for the funds they raised in support of this program.
