Our September 13 Seed Collection Network Workshop was a success!
Nearly half of our attendees were new members, and it was wonderful to welcome so many new faces to the Seed Collection Network.
We kicked off the day with a short forest walk along Beaver River Trail, where we practiced species identification and learned to recognize oak, maple, basswood, and ironwood trees.
While out on the trail, members were provided with materials to collect seeds from the trees around us. We then headed back to demonstrate how to properly prepare and stratify the seeds for winter.
From here, members will care for their seeds over the next year, eventually planting them on their own property if they have the space – or donating them to the TBM Seed Nursery to help grow native trees for future restoration projects.
