175 Year old Silver Maple is a wonder!
This Silver Maple can be found at the St. Mary Immaculate and St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elora. While there is no question that this is an elderly tree, there is some thought that what you see is actually a sucker from a root – making it all more impressive.
In 2022, two teams of arborists spent the day, working in the crown to help preserved this grand dame of the cemetery so it will continue to provide soulful respite to all visitors. We estimate that this tree is approximately 175 years old and is storing 11.6 tonnes in it’s roots, trunk, branches, and leaves.
Thanks to Giddy Funeral Home for taking on this historic Silver Maple so that it can be enjoyed for generations to come. It’s thanks to sponsors like Giddy and donors like yourself that we can sustain these heritage trees that make such a difference in our daily lives- and we don’t even know it!
When the care for a mature tree is done to the best ability with the up-most care, there should be very little visible difference between the before-work view and the after-work view.
In this case most of the work was done to alleviate stress on the outer-lying limbs and top part of the canopy so that the tree doesn’t have to work so hard!
Well done Baum Tree Care & Full Circle Tree Care!
