On May 2, 2026, the Stratford-Perth Tree Trust was proud to join our community partners at City Hall to host former environment minister Catherine McKenna for an afternoon of honest discussion. As an organization rooted in local action, we were thrilled to see such a strong turnout from neighbors who care about the future of our environment and the health of our community.

The core of the event was centered on empowering the next generation. Catherine spent time meeting with local students to share insights from her career in climate advocacy, emphasizing that while the road ahead is challenging, youth leadership is essential for real change. The conversation moved away from abstract global issues and focused on what we can do right here at home. It was a reminder that even when the scale of the climate crisis feels overwhelming, staying engaged and taking practical, grassroots steps is the best way to build a hopeful future.

For us at Tree Trust, this event reinforced why we focus on the trees in our own backyards. Protecting our natural heritage and encouraging community-led action are the building blocks of a sustainable environment. We are encouraged by the energy we saw this weekend and look forward to keeping that momentum going. We invite you to join us on May 30 for our Urban Tree Walk at Upper Queen’s Park to learn more about our local canopy and how we can continue to grow together.
