On a sunny September 21, about 40 friends, family members and tree lovers gathered at the home of Peter and Donna Wilson on Provost Lane to celebrate the 2024 Centre Wellington of the Year – an amazing Northern Red Oak tree which is at least 130 years old. The tree, truly a landmark, and was nominated by 3 separate people. Guests wrote quick love letters to trees that fluttered in the breeze. Assisting CW Mayor Shawn Watters sashing the tree, was Heather-Jane Maurice – last year’s Tree of the Year winner. The Wilsons are rightfully proud of their old – in fact placed their own sign on it after the colourful sash came down and added .. of course, yellow ribbons!
