On a cold morning in March, community members gathered at the New Hamburg Arboretum to watch something you do not see every day. Arborists from Baum Tree Care carefully climbed and pruned two mature pin oak trees as part of a REEP Green Solutions/Tree Trust conservation effort.
The event brought together local residents, volunteers, and tree advocates who shared knowledge, stories, and a deep appreciation for the Arboretum. From the ecological importance of oaks to the history of the site itself, the day was about more than maintenance. It was about supporting conservation, learning, and building a stronger connection to the natural spaces in our community.
Efforts like this show how local action can make a real difference. Mature trees play a critical role in supporting biodiversity and cannot simply be replaced once they are gone. Protecting them starts with awareness and a willingness to care.
