Hidden Treasures of the Urban Forest: A Guided Walk
Join us on a guided native tree walk through Preservation Park, led by tree experts from Guelph Tree Trust, Nature Guelph, & Reep Green Solutions.
On this walk you will get introduced to the endangered tree species of Ontario, learn the stories behind these magnificent species, and gaze into the tall old growth canopies of Preservation Park to understand the benefits of saving these giants through natural forest management practices. See first-hand the impacts of natural and human disturbances that can occur right in your own backyards. Explore the necessary beneficial role street trees play in urban ecosystems. This walk promises insight, discovery, and a deeper appreciation for the green spaces woven into our city.
Optional Extra: As a special treat, there’s an optional visit to a majestic old Burr Oak tree, tucked away in the middle of a developed area – a living relic of the landscape’s past.
Details: Length of walk is 1.5 hrs. Free street parking is available. Family friendly event, please no dogs. Not wheel chair accessible, will be walking along hiking paths with uneven terrain in Preservation Park.
